20. Brüer Tidman, Wheelchaired with Care

We’re a new gallery and for our first summer we’re going to need the support of local people to help us make it a success.

Volunteering is a great opportunity to develop skills, meet new people and give something back to your community.

We believe we have an opportunity to suit everyone – whatever your interests or experience. Whether you see yourself as front of house, being the face of The Yare Gallery to new visitors, or behind the scenes keeping everything running smoothly, there’s a role for you.

Our current volunteering opportunities are listed below. To express an interest in volunteering, or if you have any questions, please email us at and we’ll be in touch as soon as possible.

Hours: Flexible. The Gallery will be open 10am-4pm Tues - Sat, March - October. Winter hours may be reduced.

Role description

We are looking for general assistants to support The Yare Gallery. There are a range of opportunities and we will work with you to find tasks that meet your interests and needs, as well as the time you have available.

Key tasks include:

  • Welcoming gallery visitors at the entrance; in the short term, encouraging compliance with Covid-19 guidelines

  • Counting visitors in and out using a click counter system

  • Greeting visitors in the exhibition spaces, answering questions and monitoring the safety of the artwork

  • Overseeing retail sales at the entrance, including taking cashless payments (excluding  artwork)

  • Attending occasional evening events, such as private views, in a supervisory capacity.

Skills required

You may have a background in heritage and art, but what we’re really looking for are warm and friendly individuals who can make gallery visitors feel welcome.

You will need to be:

  • Confident in talking to visitors

  • Happy to work as part of a team

  • Willing to use your initiative and work independently

  • Reliable and flexible

Full training will be provided.

There will be opportunities to develop your skills and learn new ones once the gallery is established.

The gallery has a lift and is fully accessible. If you are interested in volunteering, but have disabilities that you feel may restrict you, please contact us so we discuss how we can provide a safe and enjoyable opportunity for you.

The gallery opens on May 28 when Covid restrictions will still be in place. We will be adhering to social distancing and everyone will be required to wear face coverings, unless exempt. Face visors will be provided to volunteers in the Gallery.

A rota system will be in place if necessary to ensure the Gallery is more over-staffed and to allow us to monitor who is in the building. All visitors will be asked to scan in via the NHS Test and Trace app. Hand sanitiser will be provided throughout the gallery.
